I think the Mets should make a serious move for A-Rod. With the opening of their new stadium, they need a marquee player. This will help them take the back pages from the Yankees (who always seem to dominate them, even in 2006 when the Mets were arguably the better team).

Either A-Rod or David Wright can move to first base. I would be more inclined to ask A-Rod to make the switch, since he's switched positions once before. He's such an excellent fielder I think he can play any infield position.

As a die hard Yankees fan I am disappointed that A-Rod opted out of his contract. This just goes to show everybody that he didn't want to stay in NYC to begin with. I also feel that the media scrutiny and his wife's negative feelings about NYC had a major impact on his decision. A team has to be pretty desperate to pay A-Rod more money than he was making under his old contract. By opting out, he's doing the Texas Rangers a big favor and frees up (20 million a year) cash so they can sign a few free agents or trade for better pitching.

I suspect A-Rod wants to go back to playing SS. Even if he takes a cut in pay for Manny money, it still might be too steep for many teams. NY or Boston are the only realistic cities I see him going to. They have enough additional outside income to meet the salary demand. SF has a chance if A-Rod plays for Barry Bonds money (18-22 million a year).

Think the bigger questions is if A-Rod brings people to the ballpark (sell-outs) and creates national interest in the team and if reaching and winning the World Series is A-Rod's ultimate goal. Right now it seems he's more interested in making the most cash and setting personal records. Good business sense, but that doesn't endear him to passionate and hardcore fans. As much as I admire A-Rod's talent, he has become the quintessential baseball player of the new millenium. He puts up big numbers and deserves a big salary but, unlike most previous hall-of-fame caliber players, he is not a team player. He has proved this over and over again in his career. When he was about to become a free agent in Seattle, rather than agree to a trade during the last year of his contract, he made a statement that he would not sign a contract with any team Seattle traded him to; basically, he slapped the Mariners team in the face by not allowing them to get someone of value for all the years and money they invested in him. By the way, the year after he was gone, Seattle tied the record for wins in a season by a TEAM. When he went to the Rangers, he was supposed to be their savior. He put up good numbers but the most they ever won was 73 games and that was in his first year with the team. The Yankees should have won more than they did with A-Rod in the lineup. He helped get them to the playoffs this year with his contributions but, as much as I hate to say it, New York fans chew up and spit out marquee players who don't perform at crunch time because they are knowledgeable about the game and won't tolerate players who are more about themselves than the team. It's why they loved Bernie Williams and the reason Derek Jeter is the Yankee icon. Being a lifelong Cardinal fan, I would love to see A-Rod in St. Louis if it were possible for him to change his attitude and see that now that he has more money than he will ever need, maybe he could work to earn the respect he deserves because of his talent. However, if he is gonna continue to be the A-Rod of the past, I think his best choice is to go the the Cubs and Lou Piniella and they can send Aramis Ramirez to the Cardinals. Moss' reputation as a selfish stat-padder and clubhouse pariah was well-established upon his arrival to NE, and many here questioned his ability to fit with a team known for avoiding these plagues. There was no shortage of detractors from his previous stops, either. No writer, fan or former coach from Oakland or MN missed the opportunity to predict that Moss would surely be the Patriots undoing. "The poor Patriots," they'd say, "they'll be sorry they gave up that 4th-round draft pick for him."

Hmmm. I can't help but wonder what those folks would say today.

I know - it's still early. He hasn't reached Tedy Bruschi status yet, and if the Pats take an implausible tumble, there is a chance that Moss the Malcontent may be revived. That said, he's changed a lot of opinions here (in a place not necessarily known for its flexibility), and sales of jerseys bearing 81 are inching closer to those of 12 and 54.

How did he do it? It's simple: he adopted a little humility and he put money aside (temporarily) in favor of becoming a winner. In just a few short months, he's embraced here as a guy that 'gets it' - a man that shares the goals of Average Joe. In the immortal words of his former boss Al Davis, "just win, baby."

I attended Yankee Stadium this past Father's Day, (first time since the early 50's) and the excitement of watching the Yankees play before a sellout crowd is something to behold! All the negative press related to AROD and the Yankees comes from those who are jealous of the success the Yankees have had through the years. No fighting, no bickering, just people out on a Sunday (over 55,500!) having a blast.
Folks from almost every state in the Nation were there, with their favorite T shirts or ball caps. Why? Because it's special when they go back home and be able to say, "I went to Yankee Stadium!" When the Yankees were winning all their World Series, the cry was always "Break up the Yankees." Now due to free agency, baseball seldom has repeat winners. I say, "Get over all the hate related to AROD and just enjoy the game. And as far as Bonds is concerned, any team that signs Bonds should be boycotted! Now there's a player rotten to the core, yet appreciated by just one city in America. Does anyone seem surprised it's San Francisco?

There must be some good reason the Yankees sellout almost every home game. They may not win as often in the postseason as in the past, but you have to admit, they sure make the game exciting. Remember last July when the Yankees were 14 1/2 games out, and the media and Red Sox fans were saying the Yankees would never make the playoffs? What a comeback, as the played so much better once they got over all the injuries. Clemens was a huge mistake, and Giambi should be traded, as well as Mussina. Thankfully the Yankees are keeping AROD, Posada, Rivera, Cano, Jeter, Joba, and two or three others. The rest, use as trade bait for Santana or some promising young players. Thankfully, the Yankees finally have a farm system that is the envy of a few teams.
